Born to a traveling family while they were first visiting the planet Avalon, Alain could be considered an Avalanian. Due to his birth, his parents decided to settle down on the planet. They continued their lives as merchants, now not on a galactic scale though. They traveled between the towns selling their own items from their home planet and others.

At the age of 17, this life of his ended. Passing through the Cougon plainsPlains his caravan was ambushed and taken prisoner by passing bandits. Most wherewere killed, save himself and one or two of the hired guards. Their importance was minimal, as they all where assimilated into the lives of the ruffians. He continued acts of piracy and for another 12 years. He honed his skills as a killer and a thief, but not much of an honorable fighter.

At the end of the twelfth year, the Kelioux invaded. They used their element of surprise to kill the vast majority of Avalanian military in their first assault. They were finally pushed back by a strong counter attack headed by foreign warriors. To augment their numbers, the Kelioux turned to mercenaries.

Kelioux Officers wandered the Cougon plains in high-class barges to attract thieves. Each time the wasteland rabble attacked, they were ambushed by a stealth squad equipped with non-lethal weapons. From there they were conscripted into service. Alain was part of one of these groups.

During one of his years in exile he ousted the original leader of his group and took control. This might have been what saved his life later.later; After repeated failures against Avalanian forces the mercenaries were all executed. Save the individual leaders that came with each captured group. No more then untrained ruffians, they wouldn't make great individual soldiers, but they would make a good show of decent leadership skills required in any military.

After these heavy defeats and executions, all the captured Avalanians where sent to the Kelioux home world for a better look at their utility. Heavy training ensured and military classes were taken. Alain separated himself from most of the others that where brought with him. Though he was one of them, they were still the same that had murdered his family. He held distrust for most. With that distrust of the Avalanians, he gained the trust of the Kelioux. He was given special training and favors.

Finally these Avalanians "graduated" from their training and were sent out to different tasks. Alain's first was to the planet Cauldron to oversee mining operations there. His business on Cauldron was cut short to less than a week, where a sudden event caused Alain to flee back to Kelioux in one of the remaining ships of his assigned outposts. A roaming band of space pirates led by Aurius Coldmane intercepted him and almost killed him. Miraculously, Alain survived this encounter and managed to arrive on Kelioux unharmed.
