The history of the Church in the future became a grim one once new planets with life on them were discovered long ago. The current theory in Theology is that during the time of the Tower of Babel, there was advanced technology which allowed other human races to go to the stars, thus all are still created by the grace of God. Particularly with the discovery of Avalon, the two planets with similar codes of honor quickly became allies, and even the faith of the Church was at least permitted on the other planet, though not overly preached.

The growing need for war, however, prompted the Church to look to the more chaotic side of the holy scriptures, and formed a fighting style which promoted the art of "aggressive defense". The art was called "Tenshido" or the Way of the Angels. The fighting style became of interest to the Avalonian Paladins, and soon connections between the churches of the two planets were no longer uncommon.

It was from this that Kumbaya was born; the union of a Holy Maiden of the royal line, and a fighter who had a famous rivalry with Mr. Satan before he joined the Church (in the Eastern Catholic Church, they can be married BEFORE they are ordained). Lady Dona was the youngest of several children and Fr. Nobis brought a new slant on the fighting style, teaching people how to defend themselves and acting as a local watch for his church community. He would fight tournaments to give money to charity in between trips to trade fighting tips with the in-laws. Kumbaya lived a relatively normal Church High School life... despite being 6'0" and very buxom. Though she had a lot of would-be suitors, she enjoyed serving the community despite being distant royalty and was never really interested in a "normal" high school life. She could not try out for the "Order of Shimabara" until she was 21, however. So she trained in mundane fighting styles such as Judo and Tae Kwon Do (both being martial arts founded in self defense and not religion).

It was in recent times that the Damaskian takeover conquered Avalon and likely killed most of Lady Dona's family. Since Kumbaya was not only a half-breed, but a woman, she likely would not ascend to the throne, but the Order of Shimabara realized the severity of the situation and that by some potential fluke that Kumbaya may be in line for the throne. It was decided to allow her to test for the Order as soon as her battle skills were ready. Until then, she was made an honorary Sister in the case that the Damaskian Empire decided to attack Earth. Teaching her the basics now would get more ready warriors to defend the planet against those who would suppress God from the people.
